FTD Christmas Christmas is a Christian holiday celebrated every year. It celebrates the birth of Jesus of Nazareth called nativity. We celebrate this holiday every December 25th since the mid-fourth century. Christmas along with Easter is a popular holiday that celebrates family and children, with an exchange of gifts. The crib is a staging of the birth of Jesus where we find his parents and shepherds gathered around the newborn. In Quebec, we all look forward to Christmas Eve, the evening of December 24th, spent with family and friends. Who has not tasted Grandma's Christmas turkey or Aunt Linda's Yule log! At midnight, we got to Mass, when we return home, the children eagerly await Santa Claus to bring them their Christmas presents. What a headache for parents, these Christmas gifts! (So much time and effort invested during the Christmas holidays). All the joy and innocence in children's eyes is worth all these efforts, the famous Christmas tree that we went to the end of the world and back and that is constantly loosing its needles. Is it ever nice to see all the children having so much fun decorating the Christmas tree often a bit too puny! Previously, christmas presents were give on Christmas morning and wrapped in paper with colorful patterns, they are now often offered on Christmas Eve. For Christians, the gifts are a reference to those offered by the Magi to Jesus. For children, the gifts are mostly toys and Christmas is a busy season for all merchants and for Santa, our childhood hero, represented by a plump and benevolent old man with a long white beard and dressed in red and in our imagination, had the power to enter every house to deliver long awaited Christmas presents. The famous Santa Claus is now very busy in all the malls, because for many, Christmas has become a pagan and mercantile festival, but for most people, Christmas will always remain magical, especially for those who can re-trace their childhood memories !
